Desciption:

One of the 150 Livery Companies of London, Tallow Chandlers was formed in 1300 (circa) by Oynters -tallow melters-. Congregated in honour of St John the Baptist and Our Lady, this religious fraternity extended its influence and membership for over a century and a half. In 1456 it was given the current coat of arms. By 1462, King Edward IV granted Tallow Chandlers full Livery Status, while in the next 12 years a site was purchased to house its base near Cannon Street Station which bears the name of Tallow Chandlers Hall. A victim of the Great Fire of London, the Hall was re-built in 1672 as a modern Grade 1 building. Surviving the Blitz, it remains one of the few livery halls that has not being changed since the 17th Century. Tallow Chandlers support over 80 charities through the revenue generated by the publicly available rooms which can be hired for meetings, luncheons, formal briefings and dinners.
